Escape and explore

Hostel Celica is a genuine jackpot however you look at it. It’s in the centre of the city, just a few hundred metres from the bus and train station of Ljubljana, and only a couple of minutes away from all the main sights in the city. When you finally succeed in escaping Hostel Celica’s charms (and there are quite a few), you’re only a short walk away to the old city centre. Hostel Celica is also a great starting point for exploring other parts of Slovenia.

Here are our 5 recommendations for the best experience of the city.

Have fun at Metelkova

Hostel Celica Pobegni in raziskuj Metelkova 2

First things first. One of the main attractions of Ljubljana is right at the entrance to our hostel. Metelkova Mesto is an attractive community, which, just like Hostel Celica, found its home in the former military barracks. Check out the lively musical and cultural events that bring various artists and visitors together every night.

Visit Ljubljana Castle for the best view

Hostel Celica LG

For best views, go high. Climb to the Ljubljana Castle, the main attraction of Ljubljana and the only one that overlooks the whole city. If you’re not fond of walking uphill, you can take the funicular, which will take you all the way to the top of the Castle Hill. In both cases, you will be rewarded with exceptional views.

The Castle is also a great spot to get your fill of culture and history: you can attend cultural events only minutes after exploring the Castle’s rich history. Or, if you’re really adventurous, play the Castle Escape game and free the Ljubljana dragon. Don't forget to ask for discounted tickets for castle experiences. Oh, and a pro tip: if you need a truly romantic spot, the sunsets from the Castle Hill are fantastic.

Ljubljana is a beautiful city, but how do you pronounce that name?!

Some are breaking their tongues trying to pronounce it. There are “-lj”s and even “-blj”! What the heck!? But no worries, it is not difficult at all when you find out that “J”s in Slovenian are pronounced as “Y”s in English.

Discover culinary treats

Hostel Celica Odkrivaj kulinaricne koticke

The old city centre of Ljubljana seems as if it were created for aimless wandering and discovering hidden corners. Enjoy the city like a local. Go for good coffee, craft beers and excellent food in one of the many cafés or restaurants along the Ljubljanica river. This is the best way to feel the pulse of the city and blend in with the locals.

Explore by bike

Hostel Celica Raziskuj s kolesom

You can easily explore Ljubljana on foot, but with a bicycle, you can visit hidden corners several times. The centre of the city is closed for car traffic, so bikes are a perfect way to explore the city with wind in your hair.

You can rent one of our bikes or one of the city bikes, called “bicikelj”, and get lost in the streets. When you get tired, take a relaxing rest in the greenery of Tivoli Park.

Ana is for biking

Ana, who works at the bar and reception, recommends those activities to our guests that she enjoys herself. She feels like a true Ljubljana girl when she cruises around town on her bicycle, and suggests our guests to do the same by renting the vintage bikes at the Hostel.

Ana recommends: activities around Ljubljana

Meet Linda, reception assistant

Linda is a traveller by nature and her motto is: “The further you go, the better experience you’ll have”. During her travels, Linda discovered that Slovenia is the best-kept European travel secret; an undiscovered and therefore untouched pearl. She loves the mountains, so her usual recommendation to our guests is to explore at least some of the Triglav National Park. Even the better known destinations will leave everyone speechless: Bled, the Soča Valley, the Karst region, Piran and the Adriatic Coast, the regions of Dolenjska and Prekmurje …

Linda recommends: discover Slovenia!
