San Francisco, 2005: Katja, in her late twenties, experiences a series of unexplained anxiety attacks. She seeks answers from doctors and through therapy, but ominous premonitions, anxiety and nightmares persist without explanation.
When her grandmother, to whom she has remained lovingly connected despite the distance, dies on the other side of the ocean, Katja and her mother travel to Ljubljana for the funeral. There, long-hidden family secrets begin to surface, one after another.
An awakened memory takes Katja and her mother to a place where suffering was once inflicted — a former prison, now the renowned Ljubljana hostel. This journey sheds light on their family history and opens a path towards healing the traumatic imprint.
