The exhibition by Marijo Županov presents a selection of queer artists on the Slovenian scene.

Rather than a classic portrayal of these artists, Marijo Županov decided to pay a personal homage to all of those selected. Their typical portrait depiction was therefore replaced by a conceptualisation of the portrait showing the essence of their creative work or their contribution to the Slovenian cultural scene.

The title 101 is taken from meme culture. It denotes “a basic guide”, “a beginner’s course”, “the basics of something”, essentially indicating that “you really need to know this” or “you shouldn’t miss this”. The exhibition will be accompanied by the publication of the magazine 101, which was Marijo Županov’s inspiration for creating the exhibition. Financially supported by the Slovenian Ministry of Culture, the magazine 101 is his new project focusing on the conceptual presentation of artists and icons from the Slovenian cultural and underground scene.
